Legislative Update

No contact orders and battery

January 29, 2016 Filed Under: Criminal, Juvenile

The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard HB 1069 on no contact orders and battery, authored by Rep. Zent. The bill allows a petition to be filed with the juvenile court to order a person to refrain from contact with a member of a foster family home.
The bill was amended to make battery a Level 6 felony instead of a Class B misdemeanor if the offense is committed against a member of a foster family home by a person who is not a resident of the foster family home if the person who committed the offense is a relative of a person who lived in the foster family home at the time of the offense.  The amended bill passed 10-0.
