Legislative Update

Traffic enforcement on private property and bail

January 29, 2016 Filed Under: Traffic

The Senate Judiciary Committee heard SB 216 on traffic enforcement on private property and bail authored by Sen. Hershman. This bill allows the owner or lessee of a residential apartment complex to contractually empower local law enforcement agencies to enforce traffic ordinances on the premises of the residential apartment complex. The Prosecutor of Tippecanoe County, a member of the Lafayette Police Department, testified in support of the bill.
All bail language was removed from the bill by an amendment that was adopted by consent. The amended bill passed 7-1.
