The Senate Judiciary Committee heard HB 1085, sponsored by Sen. Steele, on firearms and certification. Author Rep. Eberhart explained that the bill establishes procedures to challenge, in a circuit or superior court, a chief law enforcement officer’s denial of certification on an application to manufacture or transfer ownership of certain firearms (required by federal law). The bill also provides civil immunity to the chief law enforcement officer for acts or omissions made in good faith.
The National Rifle Association testified in support of the bill. The bill passed 9-1.
