The Senate Judiciary Committee heard HB 1130 sponsored by Sen. Kruse on ignition interlock devices. Author Rep. Wesco explained that the bill requires the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to establish minimum standards and specifications for ignition interlock devices.
An amendment was adopted making technical changes as well as establishing a fund for the deposit of fees collected from ignition interlock device manufacturers. The Coalition of Interlock Manufacturers and Indiana Mothers Against Drunk Drivers testified in support of the bill. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute stated no opposition to the bill. The amended bill passed 9-0.
