The Senate Homeland Security and Transportation Committee heard HB 1087 sponsored by Sens. Yoder and Arnold on the Bureau of Motor Vehicles omnibus bill. The bill amends the chapter regarding the rescission for lifetime Habitual Traffic Violator (HTV) suspensions regarding eligibility and adding a new code section to outline the procedures to be used by the court once the petition is filed; amends the chapter on specialized driving privileges to allow the court to suspend driving privileges for any offense in IC 35-42-1, IC 35-42-2, or IC 35-44.1-3-1 that involves the use of a vehicle up to the maximum allowable period of incarceration; outlines the contents for the petition for specialized driving privileges for court-ordered suspensions under section 3 of the chapter; and provides that if the BMV issues a driver’s license to an individual who has specialized driving privileges, the individual pays an additional $10 charge above other applicable fees; and amends the penalties for vehicle registration violations. The bill also makes numerous changes regarding BMV fees, distributions of fees, definitions, and weight classifications for trucks and buses.
There were several amendments considered which were adopted by consent. The amended bill passed 7-0.
