The House Judiciary Committee heard HB 1085 on immunity for rescuing an animal from a motor vehicle authored and presented by Rep. Cook. The bill provides for immunity from civil liability under certain circumstances if a person rescues an animal from a motor vehicle and provides that person who recklessly, knowing, or intentionally leaves a domestic animal in a vehicle unattended under certain circumstances commits endangering a domestic animal inside a parked car, a class C infraction.
The Committee amended the bill by consent to clarify the text. Testimony was received from representatives of the Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control, Humane Society, and the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The bill passed as amended 9-1.
