The Senate Corrections and Criminal Code Committee heard Sen. Zakas’ SB 38 on lifetime parole. Sen. Zakas explained that the bill requires sexually violent predators released on lifetime parole to be placed on 24-hour GPS monitoring, changes the Level 6 felony for a person on lifetime parole who violates a condition against contact with a child under sixteen or with a victim of the person’s crime so that the offense does not require the lifetime parole to have been revoked, and requires the parole board to notify the superintendent of Department of Correction and the prosecutor where the offense was committed that offender is on lifetime parole and must wear a GPS monitor.
Sen. Zakas offered an amendment, adopted by consent, to provide for use of a risk assessment procedure. The bill passed as amended 8-0.
