Legislative Update

Guardianships

February 17, 2017 Filed Under: Probate

The Senate Family and Children Services Committee heard Sen. Crider’s SB 235 on guardianships.  The bill requires guardians to monitor and only permit appropriate contact, communication and social interaction between the protected adult and individuals with whom the adult had significant past family or social relationships.  Sen. Crider explained this legislation would permit review by a court of any acts or omission by the guardian in permitting appropriate communication with the protected adult if there was a petition to the court and after a hearing and notice.
A representative from the Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging (IAAAA) spoke in favor of the bill. The bill passed 8-0.
