Traffic amnesty program

he House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard Rep. Shackleford’s HB 1268 on a traffic amnesty program. The bill establishes a temporary traffic amnesty program to permit certain persons owing unpaid traffic fines, or who may be required to pay a fee for driver’s license reinstatement, to obtain a reduction in the amount owed or amount payable.
Rep. Shackleford offered an amendment to refer this issue to a summer study committee for further review. Testimony was heard in support of the amended bill from the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney’s Council. The amended bill passed 11-0.
