The House Public Policy Committee heard SB 43 on firearms matters sponsored by Rep. Lucas and Rep. Macer. The bill removes penal facilities from the list of locations where employer ordinances, resolutions, policies or rules may prohibit the keeping of firearms on employer property. The bill also allows certain employees of the General Assembly to carry a handgun within the state capitol building and on the property of the state capitol complex if the employee possesses a valid Indiana license to carry and is otherwise permitted to possess a handgun.
An amendment making the bill’s effective date upon passage instead of July 1, 2017; and including employees of the Indiana Lobby Registration Commission was adopted by consent. The amended bill passed 9-3.
