The Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard HB 1228 authored by Rep. McNamara on data concerning youth in adult court. This bill requires the Criminal Justice Institute to track and publish certain information concerning juveniles under the jurisdiction of an adult court due to a juvenile court not having jurisdiction and waivers of juvenile court jurisdiction.
Testimony was presented by the Marion County Public Defender Agency, Children’s Policy and Law Initiative, Indiana Public Defender Council, and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The bill passed 9-0.
