The Senate Civil Law heard SB 296 on order to repair tax sale property, authored by Sen. Raatz. The bill provides that an order to repair tax sale property originally issued by an enforcement authority under the unsafe building law to the owner of a vacant or abandoned property that is later sold at a tax sale may subsequently be enforced against the successful bidder at the tax sale.
A representative from Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (AIM) testified in favor of the bill. The bill was amended to include a definition for necessary repairs and increase the time to make the necessary repairs public from 10 days to 40 days prior to the tax sale. The amended bill passed 8-0.
