Drug dealing resulting in death

The Senate Appropriations Committee heard HB 1359 sponsored by Sens. Young, Houchin, and Freeman on drug dealing resulting in death. The bill was passed as adopted by the Corrections and Criminal Law Committee and referred to the Appropriations Committee. It stiffens the criminal penalties for the manufacturing or dealing in certain drugs resulting in the death of the user.
A representative from the Indiana Sheriff’s Association told of their Heroin Overdose Response Team and testified in favor of the bill. A representative for the Indiana. State Police and for the Governor’s office also testified in favor of the bill.  The bill passed 9-1.
