Legislative Update

Child victim of human or sexual trafficking

February 18, 2019 Filed Under: Juvenile

The House Committee on Family, Children and Human Affairs heard Rep. Engleman’s HB 1075 regarding child victims of human or sexual trafficking.  This bill as filed would eliminate the requirement that the child admit or deny being a victim of human or sexual trafficking during an initial hearing on a child in need of services petition.
The committee adopted one amendment by consent that deleted the original bill text and instead modifies the date for the annual report of the Commission on Improving the Status of Children in Indiana and charges the Commission with studying the duties, responsibilities, and inter-agency coordination of a potential human trafficking coordinator at the Department of Child Services. The bill passed as amended 12-0.
