Legislative Update

Department of Child Services matters

February 22, 2019 Filed Under: Juvenile

The House Committee on Family, Children and Human Affairs heard HB 1198 authored by Rep. Frizzell on Department of Child Services matters.  The bill defines “child”, for purposes of filing a petition to terminate a parent-child relationship involving a delinquent child or child in need of services, as an individual who is less than 18 years of age.  The bill also updates the list of nonwaivable offenses under juvenile law in accordance with requirements for reimbursement under federal programs and adds department of child services employees to the list of individuals who may request that a county, municipality, or township restrict access to the individual’s home address on a public property data base operated by the county, municipality, or township.
The Department of Child Services testified in favor of the bill.  The bill passed 12-0.
