Firearms matters

For amend and vote only, the House Ways & Means Committee heard SB 119 on firearms matters sponsored by Rep. Kirchhofer.  This bill provides that:

  • a person may not sell, give, or in any other manner transfer ownership or possession of a machine gun to any person under 18 years of age
  • a person who knowingly or intentionally sells, provides, or in any other manner transfers ownership or possession of a machine gun to a person under 18 years of age commits a Level 5 felony, Level 4 felony if the person has a prior conviction for the offense, or Level 3 felony if a person under 18 years of age uses the machine gun tocommit murder.
  • a person who may legally possess a firearm is permitted to possess a firearm on school property if the person possesses the firearm as an employee or volunteer of a house of worship located on the school property or while attending a worship service or religious ceremony conducted at a house of worship.
  • increases the duration of a four-year handgun license to five years.
  • an individual may simultaneously hold both a five-year license and a lifetime license

The bill passed 16-7.
