The Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee heard SB 194 regarding provocation and obstruction authored by Sen. Baldwin. The bill increases the penalty for provocation if committed against a public safety official and increases the penalty for obstruction of traffic under certain circumstances.
The bill was amended to remove the provisions concerning provocation. Testimony in favor of the amended bill was presented by the Indiana Building and Trades Unions, Indiana Fraternal Order of Police and Fraternal Order of Firefighters, and the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council. Testimony in opposition was presented by the Indiana Public Defender Council. The amended bill was passed 8 – 1.
