Human immunodeficiency virus

The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard HB 1032 on human immunodeficiency virus authored by Rep. Eberhart.The billremoves sentencing enhancements for battery and malicious mischief that relate to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).  The bill also repeals certain offenses concerning the donation, sale, or transfer of blood or semen that contains HIV.

The Indiana Public Defender Council and the Indiana Minority Health Coalition testified in support of the bill. The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council testified in opposition. The bill passed 6-3.
