The House Corrections and Criminal Code Committee heard SB 19 on sentence enhancement for use of firearm sponsored by Reps. Jeter and Bartels. The author, Sen. Gaskill, introduced the bill which adds an investigator for the inspector general to the definition of “police officer” for purposes of the statute providing a sentence enhancement for individuals who point or discharge a firearm at a police officer while committing certain crimes.
The Inspector General’s Office testified in support of the bill. The Indiana Public Defender Council testified in opposition. The bill passed 10-0.
