The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard HB 1370 authored by Rep. Steuerwald on the establishment of the prosecuting attorney commission. The prosecuting attorney commission will be an arm of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council and (1) make recommendations to the General Assembly concerning staffing for prosecuting services; (2) adopt guidelines and standards for attorney services; and (3) provide reimbursement to counties for expenses incurred in connection with attorney services.
An amendment was adopted by consent to mirror the language governing the Indiana Public Defender Commission. The Association of Indiana Counties and Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council testified in support of the bill. The amended bill passed 11-0.
