Task force for the reduction of violent crime

On January 31, 2022, the Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee heard SB 205 on task force for the reduction of violent crime authored by Sen. Qaddoura and Sen. Freeman.The bill establishes the task force for the reduction of violent crime which would  study potential statutory changes to reduce violent crime and submit a report for distribution to the general assembly.

The Indiana Public Defender Council, Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Marion County Youth Violence Prevention Coalition, Stop the Violence Indianapolis, and Indy Congregations United to Reduce Violence testified in support of the bill.  The bill was held for amend and vote.

On February 7, 2023, the bill was amended by consent to streamline the number and makeup of task force membership pursuant to a mandate instituted by both chambers. The amended bill passed 8-0.
