The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard SB 158 on domestic violence sponsored by Rep. McNamara. The bill extends the cooling off period for an alleged perpetrator of domestic violence from 8 hours to 24 hours. An amendment was adopted by consent specifying that the list of specified offenses must involve a family or household member victim.
The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council and the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence testified in support of the bill. The Indiana Public Defender Council testified in opposition to the bill. The amended bill passed 12-0.
