The Senate Judiciary Committee heard HB 1212 on privacy of nonprofit donor information sponsored by Sen. Liz Brown. Author Rep. Karickhoff presented the bill explaining that the bill bars a state or local agency from collecting or disclosing information that identifies an individual or business entity as a member, supporter, volunteer, or donor of financial or nonfinancial support to a nonprofit organization. It also provides civil action and penalties for violations of this protection.
An amendment, adopted by consent, replaced the original bill language with the full language of SB 303, and it creates certain exceptions for government agencies to fulfill their required work. Indiana Philanthropy Alliance testified in favor. State Board of Accounts attended to answer questions. The bill passed as amended 10-0.
