The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Transportation heard HB 1050 sponsored by Sen. Crider on various motor vehicle matters. Author Rep. Pressel presented the bill which in relevant part provides that an individual commits a Class B infraction for failing to yield the right-of-way by making a lane change or failing to reduce their speed (if changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe) when approaching a disabled stationary vehicle with flashing hazard lights. This bill is also the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) agency bill and includes other motor vehicle related legislation.
The bill was amended by consent to include several amendments unrelated to the infraction listed above. ABATE of Indiana, Inc., Advance Energy United, and the Indiana Motor Truck Association testified in support of the bill. The BMV answered questions regarding the bill. The amended bill passed 8-1 and will be recommitted to Appropriations.
