The House Judiciary Committee heard SB 287 on various probate and trust matters sponsored by Rep. Torr. A representative of the Indiana State Bar Association Probate, Trust and Real Property Section explained the proposed changes in each section of the bill stating that the bill is intended to clean up and address several practical matters in this practice area, including provisions on signing a living will declaration in the presence of a notary, the petition for administration statutes, notice provisions related to wills and clarifies service requirements, will contests, contest to validity of trusts, the ability of the court to amend bond for personal representative. The Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging testified in support of the bill. The bill passed 11-0.
