Motor vehicle matters

April 16, 2023 Filed Under: Juvenile, Traffic

The Senate Homeland Security and Transportation Committee heard HB 1156 on motor vehicle matters (f/k/a failure to appear or answer a traffic summons)authored by Rep. Criswell and sponsored by Sen. Raatz. The bill provides for a process to suspend the Indiana driving privileges of a minor who is an Indiana resident for failure to appear or answer a traffic summons.

The bill was amended to change the term “portable breath test” to “portable test” and amend the definition of portable test to include a mobile apparatus that measures the presence of alcohol or a controlled substance or drug or its metabolite in an oral fluid sample.  The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council testified in support of the bill.  The amended bill passed 8-0.
