The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard HB 1182 on regulation of controlled substances authored by Rep. McNamara. The bill relocates requirements that the board of pharmacy must comply with when adopting interim rules declaring a substance a synthetic drug from the professional licensing law to the statutes governing administrative rulemaking. The bill also amends the definition of cocaine, adds the postpartum drug Zuranolone to Schedule IV, adds the synthetic opiate Brorphine to Schedule I, and sets forth additional factors the Indiana Board of Pharmacy shall consider in determining whether a substance is a synthetic drug.
The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency testified in support of the bill. The bill passed 12-0. Read the bill at https://iga.in.gov/legislative/2024/bills/house/1182
