The Senate Health and Provider Services Committee heard HB 1216 concerning medical services for certain detainees sponsored by Sen. Tyler Johnson and Sen. Charbonneau and authored by Rep. Steuerwald. The bill requires Medicaid reimbursement for services required to be covered by the office of the secretary of family and social services provided to an eligible individual while the individual is involuntarily committed to a facility for mental health services. The bill also outlines the information a physician can consider when determining whether to sign an application for emergency detention. The bill was amended by consent to further clarify that the Medicaid reimbursement is for Medicaid covered services provided to a Medicaid eligible recipient and when that reimbursement is required.
A health care provider testified in support of the bill. The amended bill passed 10-0 and was recommitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
