The House Ways and Means Committee heard SB 33 on distributions of public safety income tax revenue authored by Sen. Niemeyer and Sen. Dernulc and sponsored by Rep. Slager. The bill, in part, limits use of the judicial local income tax that was passed in 2023 to “courtroom costs” for staffing the court reporter, bailiff, or court administrator.
The bill was amended by consent to change many provisions within the bill, however, the portions related to the judicial local income tax were not amended. The amended bill passed 21-0.
