Hamilton County courts

The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard HB 1144 authored by Rep. Jeter on Hamilton County courts. The bill adds two superior courts to Hamilton County, with the first judges of the two superior courts to be elected at the November 2026 election, take office January 1, 2027, and serve a six-year term. The bill allows the Hamilton circuit and superior courts to jointly appoint two additional magistrates to serve the Hamilton County courts.

The bill passed 13-0.
