The House Judiciary Committee heard HB 1107 on funding for family recovery courts, authored by Rep. Garcia Wilburn. This bill establishes the family recovery court fund that is continuously appropriated. It provides that family recovery courts target cases of abuse or neglect wherein a parent or primary caregiver suffers from a substance use disorder or co-occurring disorders and are certified as problem solving courts by the Office of Judicial Administration.
The Indiana Commission on Improving the Status of Children, Indiana Public Defender Counsel, Hon. Daniel Petrie, Montgomery Superior Court 2, and a family recovery court graduatetestified in support of the bill. The bill passed 11-0 and recommitted to Ways and Means Committee.
