The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard SB 74 on extension of lifeline law immunity sponsored by Rep. McNamara and Rep. Hamilton. Author Sen. Alting introduced the bill which provides that an individual who is: (1) reasonably believed to be suffering from a health condition which is the direct result of alcohol consumption; and (2) assisted by a person who requested emergency medical assistance for the individual; is immune from prosecution for certain crimes.
The Indiana University Police Department, Purdue Student Government, Mental Health America of Indiana, and Collegiate Action Network testified in support of the bill. The bill passed 13-0.
