Legislative Update

Consecutive terms of imprisonment for misdemeanors

March 21, 2025 Filed Under: Criminal

The Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee heard HB 1014 on consecutive terms of imprisonment for misdemeanors sponsored by Sen. Glick and Sen. Pol. Author Rep. Zimmerman testified that current law does not contain a cap on consecutive terms of imprisonment for misdemeanors as it does for felonies.  The bill limits the total consecutive terms of imprisonment imposed on a defendant convicted of offenses arising out of the same episode of criminal conduct.

The Committee amended the bill by consent to add three misdemeanor crimes excluded from the sentencing cap. The amended bill passed 9-0.
