Legislative Update

Resisting law enforcement conflict resolution

January 9, 2026 Filed Under: Criminal

The House Committee on Courts and Criminal Code heard HB 1056 by Rep. Meltzer on resisting law enforcement conflict resolution. The bill resolves a conflict between amendments to the resisting law enforcement statute in HEA 1014-2025 and HEA 1637-2025.  Specifically, the bill codifies the intent of the General Assembly to increase the penalties for certain resisting offenses.

The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council testified in support of the bill. The bill passed 12-0.
