The House Judiciary Committee heard HB 1036 on children in need of services authored by Rep. Garcia Wilburn. The bill requires the department of child services (department) to have in-person contact with an alleged victim of child abuse or neglect: (1) before concluding an assessment; and (2) before dismissing or terminating a pending child in need of services case with the juvenile court.
The Committee amended the bill by consent to modify the time frame for the department to conduct the in-person contact with the alleged victim of child abuse or neglect.
Champions for Children Indiana testified in support of the bill. The amended bill passed 13-0.
