The Senate Judiciary Committee heard HB 1014 on unauthorized adoption advertising, sponsored by Sen. Freeman. The bill provides that the unauthorized adoption advertising statute does not apply to an Indiana resident seeking to adopt a child on the resident’s own behalf. The bill also removes a provision that requires an attorney licensed to practice in Indiana and a child placing agency licensed under the laws of Indiana to include certain information in an advertisement regarding adoption.
An Indianapolis adoption attorney and Indiana Adoption Services testified in support of the bill. The bill passed 9-0.
