Legislative Update

Radio frequency jamming devices

January 17, 2025 Filed Under: Criminal

The Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee heard SB 26 authored by Sen. Tomes and Sen. Freeman on radio frequency jamming devices. The bill provides that a radio frequency jamming device may be seized.  The bill also provides that a person who knowingly or intentionally owns, operates, uses, manufactures, possesses, buys, sells, or provides to another person a radio frequency jamming device commits unlawful radio frequency jamming, a Level 6 felony.  The offense is elevated to a Level 5 felony if the jamming device was used to disrupt a component of a critical infrastructure facility or a public safety agency, or was committed using an artificial electromagnetic pulse.

The bill passed 6-2.
