Legislative Update

Signal jamming devices

January 31, 2025 Filed Under: Criminal

The House Courts and Criminal Code Committee heard HB 1155 on signal jamming devices authored by Rep. Pierce.  The bill provides that a signal jammer may be seized and that a person who knowingly or intentionally manufactures, offers for sale, imports, markets, sells, possesses, uses, or operates a signal jammer commits unlawful use of a signal jammer, a Class A misdemeanor. The bill also provides a sentence enhancement to a Level 6 felony for a second or subsequent offense.

The Committee amended the bill by consent to increase the penalty to a Level 6 felony for the first offense and to remove the subsequent offense enhancement.  The amended bill passed 13-0.
