The Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee heard SB 120 on DNA samples at the time of arrest authored by Sen. Crider. The bill requires a sheriff to take a DNA sample of a person taken into custody for a felony. The bill provides that it is a Class C misdemeanor if a person refuses to provide a DNA sample to a sheriff.
The Indiana State Police and the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association testified in support of the bill. Hoosiers for Medical Liberty testified in opposition. The bill passed 7-0.
